On 5 June 2021, Turkish military forces carried out a drone strike targeting a PKK point in near the refugee camp in Makhmur, Erbil. National Intelligence Organization of Turkey supported the attack. 3 PKK militants were reportedly killed in the attack. One of the killed militants was reportedly a high-ranking member of the organization, responsible for the Makhmur region, and other 2 militants were his guards.
