On 13 April 2026, in Seik Khun village (Shwebo township, Shwebo district, Sagaing region), the Myanmar military conducted airstrikes and dropped five bombs with a fighter jet that came from Meiktila airbase around 3:20 pm. The bombs fell and exploded in the Taik Thit monastery. Democratic Voice of Burma, Irrawaddy, Khit Thit Media and BBC News reported on 14 April that 2 monks aged around 29 and 50 who were being ordained as monks during the Thingyan festival were killed and 16 monks were injured. Myanmar Now reported on 15 April that 3 monks including a novice, were killed and five monks were injured. The monastery buildings were also destroyed. Fatalities coded as 3, using the most recent estimate.
