5th April 2026
On 5 April 2026, time of day unclear, US aircrafts targeted Iranian IRGC military convoys and roads in Isfahan province (Isfahan) to keep them away from the area where they were rescuing the second crew member (the weapons system officer) of the downed F-15 Strike Eagle fighter jet that had been downed the previous day (coded separately). The officer had taken shelter in a mountainous area in Isfahan province. The rescue operation involved 155 aircraft, including four bombers, 64 fighters, 48 refuelling tankers, 13 rescue aircraft, and Navy SEALs were then airdropped in to recover the airman. Two C-130 transport planes tasked with retrieving rescue crews were unable to take off from the remote base in Iran, and were subsequently destroyed by US forces. Israel and the United States launched a joint operation codenamed 'Roaring Lion' by Israel and 'Epic Fury' by the United States on 28 February 2026. There were no casualties.
