The Mae Sot border is heating up as Myanmar troops opened fire on a residence belonging to a group of Chinese nationals operating a casino in the area. Smoke is seen rising, and machine gun shells and RPG fragments have crossed into Thai territory, landing near the Moei River. Thai troops and border patrol officers have reinforced security to prevent further infringement of Thai sovereignty.

Today (April 15, 2026), reporters stated that in Mae Sot District, Tak Province, just one day after the Songkran festival celebrations in Myanmar along the border, Myanmar troops launched an attack on a Karen National Union (KNU) stronghold under Lieutenant Colonel Ta Bao in Min La Pan village, opposite Huai Maha Wong village, Maha Wan Subdistrict, Mae Sot District. Myanmar troops used mortars to fire at the Karen positions. Heavy shelling was clearly visible from the Thai side, with shells landing near a residence of Chinese nationals operating a casino before the intense fighting began, causing thick smoke to rise.

Reports indicate that machine gun shells and RPG fragments landed in Thai territory, near the banks of the Moei River. There was no damage as Thai soldiers and Border Patrol Police officers from Company 346 maintained a constant presence along the border to ensure the safety of the public and prevent any infringement of sovereignty.
