On the eve of Thingyan, the military council used airstrikes to attack Wan Lai village in Pauk Township, Magway Region, killing two locals and injuring five others, according to the Ministry of Social Affairs and Humanitarian Affairs.
Today, April 16, the day before Thingyan, at 2:30 p.m., the military council attacked with a jet and a 500-pound bomb.
A humanitarian official said, "This afternoon, they opened fire right in the middle of the village. Two people died on the spot. Five were injured. Their names and ages are not yet known. The villagers were not playing in the water when they opened fire. They were staying in their homes."
He added that one man and one woman were killed in the military council airstrike, and that out of the five injured, one man and one woman were seriously injured.
In addition to casualties from the airstrikes and bombings, six houses were also reportedly damaged.
The military council-backed forces advanced into Pauk Township, burning down homes and conducting frequent bombing attacks using airstrikes.
