Pakokku Township, Myauk Lu Kan Village, was burned and destroyed by the military, leaving nearly the whole village, including the school, burned to ashes; although the fire department was informed, it did not come to extinguish it.
Yangon, April 13.
Local residents told the Yangon Khit Thit news agency that the violent military burned down houses in Myauk Lu Kan Village, Pakokku Township, Magway Region, causing nearly the whole village, including the school, to be reduced to ashes, and that although the fire department was informed, it did not come to extinguish the fire.
At a little after 8 a.m. on April 12, the violent military stationed at the monastery in Myauk Lu Kan Village burned down houses in the village, and it is known that nearly the whole village was reduced to ashes because of the fire set by the military.
Local residents said that due to the violent military’s arson, the Basic Education High School in Myauk Lu Kan Village was also burned down, and because the military was stationed in the village, the exact number of destroyed houses has not yet been confirmed, but an estimated 500 houses were burned to ashes.
“One can’t say there was any reason for a forest fire; the soldiers stationed at the monastery set the fire. It didn’t burn on their side of the area where they were stationed; it burned the side with most of the people’s houses, and even the high school was burned to ashes. It was said that the fire department was called. They did not come to put it out; they said they needed permission and hung up, according to those who called. The village has about 500 houses burned to ashes. Almost the whole village burned,” said a local resident.
In addition, the violent military had been stationed in Myauk Lu Kan Village for about two years, and most of the villagers had been forced to flee from the village after the military took up positions there.
