In Transcarpathia, police detained an armed kidnapper of a woman with a 3-year-old child, who opened fire on law enforcement officers.

Details: On April 14 at 10:56, the 102 hotline received a report from emergency medical personnel about the kidnapping of a woman and a young child. According to preliminary information, the attacker was traveling in a Skoda car and was probably armed. The incident occurred in one of the settlements of Mukachevo district.

Police teams were directed to search for the offender. Soon, the police established his whereabouts and detained him in the neighboring Beregov district.

During the arrest, the attacker offered armed resistance: he shot one of the police officers in the head with a traumatic pistol and tried to run over another with a car. Despite the threat to his life, the police detained the attacker.

Based on the results of primary investigative actions, law enforcement officers reconstructed the chronology of events.

The suspect arrived at the residence of his 45-year-old acquaintance from Mukachevo region. During an argument, he put a gun to the woman's head and forced her and her 3-year-old child into the car. The attacker then headed to the Beregov district. There, he tried to kidnap another child, his own grandson, and also caused bodily harm to his daughter. At that moment, taking advantage of the situation, the resident of Mukachevo region, with her 3-year-old child in her arms, fled from the kidnapper's car. During this conflict, the attacker again used a weapon. He was prevented from leaving the scene by a police squad.

The attacker has now been detained.

Police literally: "All participants in the incident are safe and cooperating with the investigation. The minor children did not receive any injuries. The injured police officers are being provided with the necessary medical assistance - there is no threat to their lives."

Police investigators have opened two criminal proceedings on this fact - under Part 2 of Article 146 and Article 348 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This is about illegal deprivation of liberty or kidnapping of a person and encroachment on the life of a law enforcement officer. For the offense committed, the detainee faces from 9 to 15 years of imprisonment or life imprisonment."
