Police in Linz arrested a man after officers spotted blood on his hands near a station. The motive for the Austria attack is still unclear.A 30-year-old Austrian man attacked the victim in Linz, Austria’s third largest city, who was sitting in an outdoor seating area at a market, according to Der Standard and ORF Upper Austria.Police said the injured man had been eating during his lunch break when the attack happened. Der Standard reported that he works as a security employee at a bank.A worker from a nearby food stall ran to help, reportedly holding a knife, and the attacker then fled the scene, dropping the axe as he ran.He was arrested shortly afterwards in unusual circumstances. Police said the suspect ran towards the nearest police station and encountered two officers there, whom he began harassing. The officers noticed blood on his hands and arreste him. Only afterwards did it become clear that he was the suspect from the Südbahnhofmarkt attack. The man has confessed, but the motive remains unclear. Police told Der Standard they believe the victim didn’t know the attacker and that the assault happened completely without warning. A police spokesperson said it was possible the incident was linked to mental illness or substance use.
