Yinmarapin–Pale border villages heavily bombed from the air and then burned out by junta columns, forcing tens of thousands to flee.

Residents told the New Era News Agency in Yangon that, along the border between Yinmarapin Township and Pale Township, Sagaing Region, the brutal military junta has bombing from the air and is now advancing through the villages with ground columns and burning them down, forcing more than 15 villages’ worth of tens of thousands of civilians to flee to safety.

From April 8, the junta launched a ground offensive with about 400 troops, attacking villages along the border between Yinmarapin Township and Pale Township in a two‑sided encirclement. On April 12, they clashed with revolutionary forces, during which junta troops burned down several villages, looted private property at will, and attacked civilians.

At present, the junta column is reported to be holding positions in Lay Ngaokok village and Thintedee Lake village (Sin Tha Htet), with the village of Lay Ngaokok almost completely burned out after being set on fire by the military, so that most houses in the village have been turned to ashes.

In the early afternoon of yesterday, April 13 (pre‑Thingyan day), three Gyrocopters flown in from the Northwest Regional Command Headquarters (Na Ma Kha), based in Monywa, conducted two bombing runs over southern Yinmarapin villages, and it is reported that the bombs fell and exploded in open fields near Lay Ngaokok village and Thamar‑pin‑khu village.

A local resident said:

“Yesterday, on pre‑Thingyan day, three gyrocopters dropped bombs twice, and there were no casualties, according to local reports. We heard they were near Lay Ngaokok and Thamar‑pin‑khu villages. On the 12th, during the fighting when resistance forces cut off junta columns coming out of Yinmarapin town, the junta tried to retreat through Lay Ngaokok village to the south and then got encircled, and after that they brought in airpower and bombed us. The dogs holding Lay Ngaokok village are burning down houses inside, and people think the whole village may be burned out. Because the junta is still there, we still don’t know the exact situation. The column from Pale and the one from Yinmarapin add up to about 400 troops. They are holding Lay Ngaokok village and Thintedee Lake village. From Lay Ngaokok, Lat Taung‑ngai, Thya‑ye‑kan, Ma‑kyein‑kan, Kyawk‑kyo‑suu, Lat Taung‑kya and other villages in the Thamar‑pin‑khu 12‑village cluster, tens of thousands of civilians have already fled.”

It is further reported that, at present, because of the junta’s advancing columns, tens of thousands of civilians from Lay Ngaokok, Lat Taung‑ngai, Thya‑ye‑kan, Ma‑kyein‑kan, Kyawk‑kyo‑suu, Lat Taung‑kya, as well as from Mingan‑thi‑lake, Mingan‑kyin‑Taung, Mingan‑kyin‑Taung North, Bey‑pyin‑suu, Nyaung‑pyin‑Htaung, Ma‑kyein‑pyin‑suu, Thee‑gya‑kone, Sein‑kone, and Htae‑sui ward (the Thamar‑pin‑khu cluster) are fleeing into the mountains and forests.

Similarly, on April 12, of the three gyrocopters arriving from the Northwest Regional Command Headquarters (Na Ma Kha), two bombs dropped on villages inside Yinmarapin Township, and in that bombing one 13‑year‑old girl was killed instantly near the school in Ngumaung Village, with one civilian injured, while the school building and several vehicles were also damaged.
