The Myanmar junta’s air force launched a series of airstrikes over three Rakhine townships on 9 April, where the civilian areas were targeted.

The military sources confirmed that Ramree, Pauktaw and Minbya townships were hit within a few hours. The number of casualties is yet to be confirmed.

“There are fears of more strikes,” one military monitor warned, adding, “We need to remain extra vigilant.”

Locals in Pauktaw revealed that two fighter jets bombarded the villages of Thekhon, Ya Tike, and Grun Chaung on May Ngu island between 11 and 11:30 am.

“Many houses were destroyed and several people were hit,” said a resident.

Minbya township, which witnessed a heavy assault on Wednesday, was targeted once again on Thursday between 11:50 am and 12:10 pm by Y-12 transport planes and jet fighters.

“They dropped nearly nine bombs within three waves,” said a Minbya local, adding, “They fired almost 30 bombs and deliberately killed civilians. They are making our lives miserable.”

On 8 April, a civilian was killed when a minor was also injured in a bomb attack on Pale Taung under  Minbya township.

Following the strikes on Pauk Taw and Minbya, a fighter jet approaching from the north-eastern localities dropped two bombs on Rambree at around 1:30 pm.

The exact impact-sites were difficult to determine  due to the chaos in the locality.

A Rambrew-based social activist noted that after the Arakan Army (AA) occupied the townships namely Pauktaw, Minbya  and Rambree, those were not identified as active military zones. But the junta forces targeted those areas, which are apprehended as deliberate.

Due to the ongoing situation and upcoming Thingyan period, advisories are being issued  for the public to avoid large crowds and also maintain vigil over airspace.

Reports indicated that aircrafts were observed flying over Ponna Kyun and Rathedaung townships too.
