A civilian was killed and a teenager injured during a Myanmar military airstrike on Palay Taung (Kappa) village in Minbya Township, Rakhine State, on the morning of April 8.

The attack occurred around 8:00 AM when junta aircraft dropped bombs directly onto the village. The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old U Myo Chit (also known as Ame).

Local sources reported that he died instantly after being struck by shrapnel across his body.

Maung Than Win Maung, 15, sustained shrapnel wounds in the same strike and is currently receiving emergency medical treatment.

A local resident, Ko Maung Chey, confirmed the assault to Narinjara, noting that the military utilized a combination of jet fighters and Y-12 transport planes. "They targeted the countryside," he said. "The bombs fell right into the village."

In addition to the casualties, the strike caused significant property damage, hitting a local school and the home of a resident identified as U Maung Tun Tin.

Since losing ground to the Arakan Army (AA) across Rakhine State, the military junta has increasingly resorted to air and naval strikes. Critics and local monitors point out that these attacks frequently target civilian infrastructure rather than active military objectives.

Minbya Township has been a frequent target of such strikes since it was fully captured by the Arakan Army on February 26, 2024. Previous incidents include an October 2025 bombing that killed four civilians and a June strike near the 380th Infantry Battalion station.
