Sagaing Region, Shwebo Township: Drone from military outpost drops bomb in Ming Kone village, killing one local woman and injuring over 10, locals say.

Around midday on April 11, a drone equipped with 2 bombs was launched from the military outpost in Ming Kone village; it crashed and exploded inside and in front of an oil mill about 200 kyats (distance unit) west of the outpost.

Due to the explosion, at least 10 locals from Ming Kone village sustained shrapnel injuries, and among them, a woman over 60 years old died while receiving treatment, according to a local resident.

Regarding this incident, a local said, “Of the 2 bombs that fell, one exploded and the other did not.”

The drop site was the roadside in front of the oil mill, a crowded area with a petrol station, eateries, and lumber yards, which is why there were so many casualties.

Additionally, when locals went to inform the military to come collect the unexploded bomb, not only did they not come, but they were told more might come, advised not to stay around there, and to avoid and live on their own.

Moreover, the Deputy Minister of Security and Order of Sagaing Region under the military junta is currently in Shwebo town to open the walking Thingyan festival.

Therefore, the military has reinforced checkpoints at town entrances and is daily shelling and attacking villages outside the town with drones and heavy weapons, locals said.

Due to the shelling, from April 8 to 12 over 5 days, a man from Yay Kyi Wa village and a woman from Ming Kone village died from shrapnel wounds.

Additionally, over 16 locals including a young child were injured; one timber sales shop was burned and destroyed; some houses and IDP tents were also hit and damaged, locals reported.
