(Mizzima) .. Eight soldiers from the Nay Pyi Taw military were killed and many others injured in an attack on a checkpoint in Setuttara Township, Magway Division, the Chin Defense Forces – Asho (CDF – Asho) said.
It is said that the rebels were killed in a joint raid by the rebel forces on the Kim Poon Sung checkpoint, which was manned by more than 30 people on the Ngaphe-Satuttara road in Satuttara Township, at 5:00 a.m. on April 10.
“The death toll was confirmed by eyewitnesses during the fighting. There are still more people injured and dead. There may be additional deaths, but we have not been able to collect the figures yet,” CDF-Asho official Salai Ro Chin told Mizzima.
He said that during the fighting, there was resistance, people fled to the side of Kim Poon Sung village, and there were also casualties in the hills, monasteries, and religious institutions.
In addition to the casualties suffered by Nay Pyi Taw military personnel during the fighting, three guns and some ammunition were seized from them, while two members of the revolutionary forces sustained minor injuries.
Within two and a half hours of the fighting, Nay Pyi Taw military forces temporarily took control of about half of the area controlled by the rebels. A reinforcement vehicle from the Defense Equipment Factory (KPS-20) arrived, and the rebel forces briefly clashed with it, Salai Rochin added.
Mizzima has not been able to independently confirm any casualties during the fighting.
Salai Rochin said that the checkpoint was set up after the military took power in the country and is located at the border between Settuttara and Ngaphe Townships, making it difficult to assess its importance.
The raid was carried out by the CDF-Asho unit, in collaboration with the New Society Army (NSA), the People's Revolutionary Alliance (PRA-Magway), and the 8th Battalion of Minbu District and the Ngaphe Township PKK.
