Armed Incursion and Forest Destruction Sparks Agrarian Conflict in Tekax. Ejido members reported the incursion of a group of people into the Becanchén police station in the municipality of Tekax, Yucatán. The group was seen escorting a lawyer as they entered communal land. The scene showed several men with long objects concealed in bags, accompanied by trained dogs, while heavy machinery, such as backhoes, advanced across approximately 5,000 hectares of forest, removing vegetation and clearing paths. Later, federal environmental authorities arrived at the site and placed closure seals following the complaint of forest damage. "They arrived with machinery and armed men; they didn't ask for permission," said one ejido member at the scene, pointing to the affected area and the newly opened paths through the vegetation. Following the official intervention, the machinery was stopped and access was restricted with visible tapes and seals, while residents remain on alert for new attempts to enter.
