Grenade event in Gothenburg, Utby area, Sweden on Tue 14th April 2026

A hand grenade detonated next to a residential building in the Utby area of ​​Gothenburg early Tuesday. No one was injured.

It was at 1:40 a.m. that the police and emergency services were alerted to the explosion, something Göteborgs-Posten was first to report.

Outbuilding and car damaged

No one was injured, but the explosion caused material damage to an outbuilding and a car in the form of shattered windows.

Shortly before six in the morning, Göran Carlbom says that police technicians have been at the scene for about an hour, and will soon be finished.

– The National Bomb Protection Unit has also been here, and has assessed the location as safe, says Carlbom.

No one has been arrested at this time. The incident is being investigated as public destruction and a violation of the Flammable and Explosive Goods Act.

– There has been a lack of witness statements, but we'll see if we can get some more during the day.
