The municipality of Trinidad García de la Cadena, Zacatecas, awoke this Friday in a state of total paralysis and desolation after a day of extreme violence. Intense bursts of gunfire from high-caliber weapons and the use of explosives kept the population confined to their homes, while local businesses remained closed for fear of further clashes. Citizen reports indicate that the community was shaken by two major attacks. The first occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, followed by a second, much more aggressive incursion at 5:20 a.m. this Friday. Residents described this latter event as "terrible," with more than 20 minutes of continuous gunfire that ceased around 5:45 a.m. The epicenter of the shootings was on the street that houses the Municipal Police Headquarters and the Basic Rehabilitation Unit (UBR). In this area, the gunmen not only fired high-powered bursts of gunfire, but also threw at least one fragmentation grenade. Furthermore, residents confirmed that the projectiles struck the facades of at least two private homes, increasing panic among families in the neighborhood.
