Details : As the investigation established, on the day of the assassination attempt, a hitman with a pistol and two loaded magazines took up a position near the exit of the residential complex where a Ukrainian officer lives. Imitation of repairing a bicycle, the attacker, wearing a balaclava, waited for the appearance of a car driven by a serviceman.

When the car approached the exit, the agent threw the bicycle under the wheels of the car and tried to open fire on the driver. At that moment, the killer was detained by the counterintelligence and special forces task force of the Central Intelligence Agency "A" of the SBU, which had been keeping the suspect under wraps for a long time and had documented his every move.

According to the investigation, the enemy's task was carried out by a 37-year-old resident of one of the Balkan countries, recruited by Russian special services.

In February 2026, a foreigner arrived in the Ukrainian capital under the guise of a tourist and later traveled to Odessa to fulfill a Russian order. Upon arrival in the port city, the agent received the geolocation of a cache from a Russian curator, from which he took a pistol with a silencer and cartridges.

Next, the suspect tracked the potential victim's main locations and travel routes, after which he "agreed" with the Russian intelligence officer on the location of the planned attack.

For the sake of conspiracy, the killer regularly changed the addresses of Odessa rented apartments and hotel rooms.

Investigators of the Security Service informed the foreigner of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 15, Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (completed attempt to commit a terrorist act). The perpetrator is in custody. He faces up to 12 years in prison.
