UAV event in Caspian Sea, Filanovsky Oil Platform area, Russian Federation on Sun 11th January 2026

Ukraine carried out another long-range strike overnight on 11 January 2026, hitting three Russian oil platforms in the Caspian Sea, according to Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces. The operation targeted Lukoil's offshore installations reportedly used to supply fuel to Russian forces and took place more than 950 km from the frontline in Ukraine.

Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil fields, refineries, tankers, and fuel depots are gradually degrading the Russian army’s fuel supply and the export revenues that sustain its invasion of Ukraine.

Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces (SSO) said their deep-strike units hit three Russian drilling platforms operated by Lukoil in the Caspian Sea. The targets included the Vladimir Filanovsky, Yuri Korchagin, and Valery Grayfer ice-resistant stationary platforms.

The Ukrainian military said the platforms are used to support fuel supply for the Russian army fighting against Ukraine. The strike was carried out overnight on 11 January as part of Ukraine's ongoing long-range operations.

SSO said the strikes are aimed at weakening Russia’s ability to continue the war through asymmetric actions.

The latest strike marked the fifth Ukrainian attack on Russian oil platforms in the Caspian Sea within just over a month. Previous attacks were carried out by Ukraine’s SBU Security Service using long-range drones.

The campaign began on 11 December when Ukrainian drones reportedly hit the Filanovsky platform, halting extraction from more than 20 wells. Follow-up strikes targeted the same platform again, as well as the Yuri Korchagin platform and later the Valery Grayfer platform, also known as the Rakushychne field.

All the targeted oil and gas fields are located in the northern part of the Caspian Sea.

The Filanovsky field is the largest oil and gas condensate field in Russia’s Caspian sector, with oil reserves of 220 million tons and gas reserves of 40 billion m³.

The Korchagin field holds an estimated 53 million tons of oil and 86 billion m³ of gas. 

The Grayfer field has recoverable reserves of about 19.2 million tonnes of oil and 33 billion m³ of gas.
