On April 8, a cadre of the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF-Prosit), identified as Newton Chakma alias Nirmal (47) was shot dead by unidentified miscreants next to a shop in Akbari area of ??Khagrachhari Union in Sadar Upazila (Sub-District) in Khagrachhari District, reports Prothom Alo. The UPDF-Prosit faction blamed the UPDF-Democratic faction for the murder. UPDF-Prasit party spokesperson Angya Marma said, "UPDF-Democratic is involved in this murder. The attack was carried out under the leadership of party member Ajit Chakma." UPDF-Democratic Party central organiser Amar Jyoti Chakma, however, denied his party's involvement in the incident.
