Attempted Robbery in Bogotá Restaurant Foiled by Diners and Police, Suspect Shot Himself in the Foot An armed man was captured after a failed robbery attempt inside a restaurant in the Ciudad Jardín Sur neighborhood, Antonio Nariño locality, southern Bogotá. According to authorities and local reports, the suspect entered the establishment on Tuesday night, March 31, and tried to steal a gold chain from one of the diners. Patrons quickly reacted, and with the help of a nearby police officer, they managed to subdue him during a struggle. In the chaos, the suspect accidentally discharged his traumatic (non-lethal) revolver. The shot injured one citizen with a minor wound to the shoulder and also struck the assailant himself in the foot. During the arrest, police found a ring and a gold bracelet on the suspect; authorities are investigating their origin. The Metropolitan Police of Bogotá took the detained man into custody and placed him at the disposal of the competent authorities for further investigation. The incident has drawn attention as the restaurant in Ciudad Jardín Sur has reportedly been targeted in two armed robberies so far in 2026. As in all criminal cases, the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
