Military intelligence and the National Intelligence Center coordinated the operation in Manabí. Seven people were arrested in the canton of Portoviejo, Manabí province, according to the Ecuadorian Army. Official reports indicate that the detainees are alleged members of the "Los Choneros" organization, identified only by their aliases: "Pelado Kevin," "Picoaza," "Chucho," "Abogado," "Manteco," "Barbie," and "Muñeca." During a raid on a property, rifles, submachine guns, pistols, ammunition of various calibers, an object resembling a grenade, cell phones, cash, and a motorcycle were seized. Authorities estimate the operation dealt a $68,000 blow to the criminal organization. The operation was coordinated by the Ecuadorian Armed Forces through the Army, within the framework of institutional security and intelligence actions.
