The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (NSSC) has launched an investigation into a radiation exposure incident at a hospital in Gijang-gun, Busan. The NSSC announced that it received a report of an abnormal radiation exposure incident from a hospital, referred to as Hospital A, in Gijang-gun, Busan, at 3:30 PM on the 9th and immediately began its investigation. Hospital A reported to the NSSC that at approximately 8:36 AM on the 9th, an employee from a fire safety company was present inside the medical accelerator room when another employee, unaware of their presence, operated the accelerator from the control room. According to the report, the radiation was halted when a safety device, an interlock, was activated as the fire safety employee opened the door to exit the accelerator room. The exposed individual's radiation exposure time is estimated to be about 11 minutes, from 8:36 AM to 8:47 AM. The NSSC has requested the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety (KINS) to investigate the incident. It plans to determine the detailed circumstances of the event and check for any violations of the Nuclear Safety Act through on-site inspections and interviews with the exposed individual.
