Troops discover, safely neutralise IED on Gwoza–Yamteke road in Borno
By: Zagazola Makama
Joint troops of 114 Battalion (Motorised) and 199 Special Forces Battalion have discovered and safely neutralised an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by suspected terrorists along the Gwoza–Yamteke road in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security sources said the device was discovered at about 3:52 p.m. on April 6, 2026, during a routine patrol between Bitta and Gwoza.
The troops reportedly cordoned off the area immediately after the discovery and called in an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.
The EOD personnel successfully recovered and destroyed the device in situ, preventing any harm to civilians and security operatives.
Authorities said patrols have been intensified in the axis to prevent further planting of explosive devices and to ensure the safety of road users.
