Troops, DSS  raid IPOB/ESN camp, neutralise suspect, arrest one in Egbema West

By: Zagazola Makama

Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), have raided a suspected camp of criminal elements linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network, Egbema West area of Imo State.

Security sources said the operation was conducted at about 10:33 a.m. on April 6, 2026, by troops of 34 Artillery Brigade acting on credible intelligence.

The joint team reportedly dismounted from their vehicles and advanced on foot for about four hours through difficult terrain before reaching the hideout of a notorious kingpin identified as “Aluta.”

On arrival, troops came under fire from the insurgents, prompting a firefight.

Following sustained engagement, the suspects were overwhelmed and forced to retreat into the forest.

One member of the group was neutralised during the encounter, while another, who sustained gunshot wounds, was arrested and is currently in the custody of the DSS.

Items recovered from the camp include a laptop and two communication radios.

The camp was subsequently destroyed by the troops.

Authorities said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal enclaves and restore security across the South-East.
