A man who worked at a school in Salem has died after a shooting in Södertälje.

No one has been arrested yet.

“He was shot in connection with or in a car,” says Per Fahlström, police spokesperson, about the victim.

The shooting took place on Thursday morning in the Grusåsen area in the central parts of Södertälje.

– When we arrived at the scene, we found that a man had been shot. The man has been taken to hospital with very serious injuries, says Per Fahlström.

At 1 p.m., the police announced that the man, who is between 25 and 30 years old, had died and that the crime classification had been changed to murder.

He has no known connection to the criminal networks in Södertälje, but has previously been convicted of theft, among other things.

During the afternoon, Salem Municipality announced that the deceased man was an employee of the municipality. According to information provided to SVT, he worked at a school.

Large police operation in Grusåsen

The police response at the scene was massive. The cordons have been lifted and the technical investigation has been carried out.

– We are on site with a large number of police patrols, to search for the person or persons who committed the crime while we are taking investigative measures at the scene. We are interviewing people who may have heard or seen something and are knocking on doors, says Per Fahlström.

No one is currently in custody.

– We are taking stock of whether there are cameras that can help us along the way. We are in the process of creating a picture of what has happened.

During the Easter weekend, the police will have a security-creating effort in the area, and will be available for people who have questions or tips to leave, they announce on their website.

– We are of course considering causal connections with other events that have taken place, says deputy local police chief Johan Hårderup .

The area has been described as a drug scene

Grusåsen was identified as a new open drug scene by the police in 2024. The area has previously been described as quiet.

Nearby is Nyckelskolan, with classes from F-9. Two children at the school are said to have seen the shooting , according to information provided to SVT.

The key school has been contacted by the Södertälje police and was taken into custody during the morning.

– It is clear that we are affected, but we are conducting teaching as usual. We keep the children inside for as long as possible, talk to them and listen to them. We are safe, says Andreas Sjöberg, principal at the school.

How have the children reacted?

– I haven't experienced any major panic so far. But of course many people have questions.
