Troops repel bandits, rescue kidnap victim in Sokoto
By: Zagazola Makama
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have repelled a bandit attack on Maiwa village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, rescuing one kidnapped victim.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 1:00 a.m. on March 29 when troops of 8 Division Garrison, deployed at Forward Operating Base Sabon Birni, responded to reports of an attack on the community.
According to the sources, the troops made contact with the attackers and engaged them in a firefight, forcing them to abandon the abducted victims.
“The bandits fled with three other victims into the surrounding area,” the source said.
The sources added that troops pursued the fleeing attackers but were hindered by riverine terrain and poor visibility.
They said efforts are ongoing to track the assailants and rescue the remaining kidnapped victims.
