On 23 March 2026, Russian forces (units of the 'West' group likely by shelling and drone strikes as the most common means) struck the Ukrainian personnel and equipment of three mechanized brigades, an assault brigade, and a territorial defense brigade (coded to Novoosynove) near Shyikivka, Kharkiv. According to Russian sources, Ukrainian military lost: two tanks, four armored combat vehicles, 22 vehicles, an artillery piece, two ammunition depots and up to 190 Ukrainian servicemen were killed near Borova, Novoosynove, Shyikivka, Lyman and Svyatohirsk [Russian MoD reported 190 fatalities.
