On 23 March 2026, in Thaung Gyi village (Myaung township, Sagaing district, Sagaing region), the Myanmar military conducted airstrikes and dropped 4 bombs on the village with a jet fighter from the Tada-U air base at around noon. More than 40 civilian houses were destroyed. Democratic Voice of Burma reported that at least 4 civilians (2 men and 2 women) were killed, and Irrawaddy, Shwe Phee Myay News Agency and Mizzima reported that 5 civilians (a 74-year-old man, a 60-year-old man, a 49-year-old man, a 57-year-old woman and a 60-year-old woman) were killed and about 10 others were injured. Network Media Group reported that at least 6 civilians, including a 6-year-old child, were killed. Khit Thit Media reported that 4 civilians were killed and 3 others died from sustained injuries on 24 March. Fatalities coded as 4, using the lowest estimate.
