On 26 March 2026, unidentified warplanes, likely American or Israeli (likely as part of the ongoing US-Iran conflict) conducted an airstrike targeting a disused military airfield 90 km east of Ar Rutba city (location unknown, coded as Ar Rutba city, Al Anbar). The airfield lies behind the headquarters of the 79th Brigade. It had been previously used for manufacturing drones but has long been out of service, with no current personnel, equipment, or activity reported at the site. There were no casualties.
