Missile event in British Indian Ocean Territory on Fri 20th March 2026
20th March 2026
On 20 March 2026, early morning, Iranian forces (coded as IRGC) launched 2 intermediate-range ballistic missiles at the joint US-UK military base Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean (British Indian Ocean Territory). Neither of the missiles struck the base. One failed mid-flight in an open area, and the other was engaged by a US Navy destroyer, but it is unclear if the interception was successful. There were no casualties. This was the first time Iran fired missiles that went beyond 2,000 km.
