On 15 March 2026, in Kyunhla township (Kanbalu district, Sagaing region), the Myanmar military conducted airstrikes, dropped bombs three times and opened fire with machine guns at gold miners and gold mining rafts in Tha Hpan Seik dam with two fighter jets that came from Homalin airbase around 3:30 pm. Khit Thit Media reported that many gold miners were killed and injured and rafts were destroyed. Democratic Voice of Burma reported that at least 7 gold miners were killed and 15 rafts were destroyed. Irrawaddy and Myanmar Now reported that 3 gold miners were killed and more than 12 were injured. Network Media Group reported that 6 gold miners were killed and some were injured and 15 rafts were destroyed. Khit Thit Media and Shwe Phee Myay News Agency reported on 19 March that 7 gold miners were killed, 18 were injured and 2 were missing. A member of the People's Defense Force - Mingin claimed that the military conducted airstrikes and dropped bombs on gold mining sites to disrupt the taxation and revenue stream of local PDF troops.
