On 20 March 2026, in Katha town (Katha township, Katha district, Sagaing region), the Myanmar military conducted airstrikes and dropped bombs at the Ma Har Lay Htet monastery in the No.3 ward and the Pa Pel Kone area where IDPs were staying around 11 am. Kachin News Group reported that a monk, two women and a man were killed and many were injured and the monastery was destroyed. Myanmar Pressphoto Agency reported that around 20 were killed. Fatalities coded as 4, using the lowest estimate.
