On 16 March 2026, at least two drones launched by an unidentified armed group (likely linked to Iranian-backed groups due to ongoing hostilities between the United States, Israel, and Iran) targeting the Majnoon Oil Field (Al Basrah), striking a communications tower and an office belonging to a US company (KBR), causing material damage but no casualties, the attack occurred amid heightened regional tensions and with only Iraqi staff present at the site after foreign workers had withdrawn. There were no casualties.
