On 15 March 2026, the Mozambique navy fired shots and rocket-propelled grenades at fishers in boats, killing at least 13, off the coast of Calugo (Mbau, Mocimboa da Praia, Cabo Delgado). 19 men in six boats were in the area despite restrictions banning fishing. Another 3 sustained minor injuries, and 3 were seriously wounded. The wounded were taken to the hospital, while others were buried in Calugo. The forces also shot at the fishers who attempted to swim away.
