On 20 March 2026, IEDs suspected to have been planted by a Niger militia exploded and killed 8 militants along the Kurebe-Kushaka axis, coded to the closest populated area, Kurebe (Shiroro, Niger). The militants had intended to plant the IEDs for government forces, but unknowingly passed through the location, triggering the devices.
