On 17 March 2026, FARDC-Wazalendo-Burundi fired heavy artillery at M23 in Biriba (Uvira, Sud-Kivu). Loud detonations of heavy and automatic weapons were heard from approximately 5 am. Casualties unknown. It caused a massive displacement of civilians towards Uvira; many of these civilians had just returned from refugee camps in Burundi after months away.
