On March 25, at approximately 12:05 AM, a military column of over 50 personnel, which had been stationed at a forest monastery west of Ngape town, advanced toward the Mann Chaung Dam. Revolutionary forces launched an assault while the unit was temporarily camped about 900 meters east of the Mann Chaung spillway.

During the engagement, about 20 soldiers were killed and at least five others were wounded. Revolutionary comrades were able to withdraw safely without any casualties following the operation.
