Grenade event in Odesa, Kyivskyi District area, Ukraine on Sat 28th March 2026

The shooting in Odessa on Saturday was committed by a 22-year-old serviceman who was on leave.

Details : At around 11 a.m. in the Kyivskyi district of the city, an eyewitness passing by reported to the police about an unknown person with a weapon in his hands.

Verbatim : "It has been previously established that the offender, a 22-year-old serviceman, was in Odessa on vacation. On the street near his rented home, he fired several shots into the air, first from a starting pistol, and also detonated a grenade. The motives for the crime are currently being established.

The police detained the attacker in a procedural manner and seized a pistol with cartridges and a grenade casing from him, which were sent for examination."

Details : Special forces from the special forces battalion and the KORD unit, patrol police officers, explosives technicians, forensic experts, and an investigative and operational group worked at the scene.

According to the specified fact, police investigators entered information into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Part 4 of Article 296 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The issue of notifying the defendant of suspicion is being resolved. The sanction of the article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of up to seven years.
