Rocket
Rocket event in Kirkuk, K1 Military Base area, Iraq on Fri 13th March 2026
13th March 2026
On 13 March 2026, an unidentified armed group (likely linked to Iranian-backed groups due to ongoing hostilities between the United States, Israel, and Iran) targeted K1 Military Base (Kirkuk) with two Katyusha rockets, causing explosions. The base housed French forces. The rockets were launched while a French helicopter was landing at the base. The rockets missed the target and landed outside the perimeter wall (between French positions and drone sites) causing material damage to the wall. Two more rockets struck nearby areas (coded as a separate event). Security forces cordoned the sites and launched an investigation. Authorities later found a rocket launcher 25 km away (coded as a separate event), containing one of two unfired projectiles that military engineers began dismantling. Security forces opened an investigation. There were no casualties.
