On March 17, two unidentified assailants fired gunshots in the air near the Department of Botany at Punjab University (PU) in Chandigarh, in an incident suspected to be linked to gang rivalry, reports thehawk.in. The attackers arrived on a two-wheeler, abandoned it at the spot and later snatched a motorcycle at gunpoint before fleeing towards the Punjab border. Chandigarh Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kanwardeep Kaur confirmed recovery of two shells, adding that the firing was intended to threaten student leader Jashanpreet (Jashan) Singh Jawanda of the Student Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU).
