On March 14, Police arrested two self-styled ‘commanders’ of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in Latehar District of Jharkhand, following a search operation based on specific intelligence inputs, reports The Hindu. According to Latehar Superintendent of Police (SP) Kumar Gaurav, the operation was launched within the limits of Chhipadohar Police Station limits after information indicated that a CPI-Maoist ‘zonal commander’ was moving with his squad in the Netarhat, Mahuadanr, Baresand, Garu and Chhipadohar areas. During the operation, two Maoists were arrested, while three others managed to escape from the spot. Security Forces (SFs) recovered arms and ammunition, including an AK-47 rifle, from their possession. The arrested cadres carried a combined bounty of INR 1.2 million and were wanted in several cases registered across districts and States, including Chhattisgarh. The identities of the arrested Maoists are being ascertained.
