14th March 2026
On March 14, a 22-year-old individual, identified as Birinder Singh, was shot dead in Edmonton, the capital of Alberta province in Canada, reports The Tribune. His father, Ranjit Singh, urged Canadian authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice and strengthen protection for Punjabi and Sikh communities, fearing a possible hate crime. Birinder, an Amritdhari Sikh, had moved to Canada three years ago on a study visa and was employed in the construction sector. The attack occurred when a suspicious vehicle overtook Birinders car and an assailant opened fire. Birinder sustained a fatal neck injury and died on the spot. Relatives noted a rising trend of attacks targeting Punjabi Sikhs in Canada.
