On 12 March 2026, Islamic Resistance in Iraq militants conducted drone strikes using Shahed drones, impacting a joint Peshmerga - French forces base in Mala Qara town (Makhmour, Erbil), killing 1 French officer and injuring 6 others. There were no casualties among Peshmerga forces. At least 4 drones were intercepted during the attack. A drone crashed in an open area in the Dibaga subdistrict (presumably due to an interception). 1 fatality.
