SAA event in Guayas, Playas area, Ecuador on Thu 12th March 2026

On 12 March 2026, in Playas (Guayas), four armed individuals belonging to the Choneros gang killed six students who were celebrating their graduation at a house on Jaime Roldos Aguilera Avenue and the Malecon. The attackers forced entry into the house and used automatic weapons to fire indiscriminately at those present. Six people were killed and three others were injured in the attack. Police indicated that some of the deceased had been members of the Choneros gang who had decided to change criminal group, which triggered the attack. After the attack, around 200 people, relatives of the deceased, arrived at the scene and prevented investigation units from removing the bodies. 6 fatalities.
