On 12 March 2026, in Guayaquil - Ximena (Guayas), police had an armed confrontation with two armed individuals in the Las Malvinas neighborhood. While carrying out a routine patrol, police officers were shot at by individuals who fled immediately afterwards. Police followed them using neighborhood security cameras, located where they were staying, raided the house, and arrested the two suspects. They also seized two firearms and ammunition. There were no fatalities.
