SAA event in Belize, Belize City area, Belize on Thu 12th March 2026

On 12 March 2026, in Belize City, Belize, in the morning, a gunman who was on a motorcycle with another man opened fire on a man who was standing near his family's food stand, firing over two dozen shots from an automatic weapon (drive-by). The victim and his sister, a food vendor, were both shot and brought to the hospital, where the man later died of his injuries. Nearby police officers responded immediately and pursued the two suspects, opening fire and shooting one of them. The shot suspect was detained and brought to the hospital, where he died of his injuries. The second man was arrested and charged with murder. Police described the incident as a targeted attack, and a local source described the incident as being potentially tied to gang rivalries in the area and a shooting that occurred the previous week. The targeted victim had also survived another attack at his residence several years earlier. 2 fatalities, 1 injured.
