On 11 March 2026, Thai military from the Joint Special Operations Unit in Pattani exchanged fire with a Malay Muslim separatist during a house search in Tha Kamcham village, Tha Kamcham, Nong Chik (Pattani). The confrontation began after a separatist fled a security checkpoint and opened fire on a surveillance drone while barricaded inside the house, later throwing improvised explosives at officers. The clash ended with one separatist killed and authorities seizing an M16 rifle, a handgun, and an unexploded pipe bomb from the scene.
