11th March 2026
On 11 March 2026, around 4 am, as per M23, FARDC carried out at least two drone strikes at the Katindo residential neighborhood of Goma - Katindo (Goma, Nord-Kivu), targeting several locations. The first strike landed on Lake Kivu, and the second one hit a residential building housing humanitarian workers, including workers of the European Commission Humanitarian Aid Service. Several houses were destroyed, including those of a Belgian entrepreneur. At least 2 Congolese citizens and 1 French national, working for UNICEF, were killed. One of the houses hit was severely gutted, partially burnt, and had its roof destroyed. Shrapnel also hit neighboring buildings, blowing out their windows. The strikes were allegedly aimed at the M23 political and military command, given the number of high-profile figures living in the area. Shortly after the attack, several residents of the neighborhood reported a significant deployment of M23-AFC on the scene.
