On 11 March 2026, ISSP ambushed a patrol of the Niger special forces from the Intelligence and Surveillance Battalion (BRS) in Makal (Birni N'Konni, Tahoua). ISSP claimed to have killed 3 soldiers, injured others, burned down five four-wheel vehicles, seized thirteen rifles and four medium and heavy machine guns. Other sources mentioned the death of at least 12 Nigerien soldiers as well as reporting that seven additional soldiers went missing after the attack. 3 fatalities coded as per the lowest available estimate.
