On 10 March 2026, SSPDF troops sneaked into Akobo Town and clashed with joint SPLM/A-IO and 'White Army' youth (Nuer ethnic militia) in Bilkey Payam (Akobo, Jonglei). One source claimed 11 fatalities (5 SSPDF, 3 SPLM/A-IO and 3 civilians). SSPDF forces claimed to have captured the Town, but the opposition noted that the capture was brief and that they repelled the SSPDF across the Geni River to Wech-deng. A local official accused th e SPLM/A-IO of looting some shops. One source claimed that SPLM/A-IO fighters withdrew from Akobo earlier in the day before SSPDF troops arrived and that SSPDF soldiers crossed the river to the town on foot, briefly secured parts of Akobo for a government visit, then withdrew to their base across the river. After the withdrawal, local youth known as the White Army launched occasional attacks on SSPDF troops (no further information). SSPDF spokesperson confirmed the recapture without resistance, although the market and main hospital had been looted and claimed that during earlier engagements en route to Akobo, the army lost 13 soldiers and 20 wounded, while 50 opposition members were killed. The army spokesperson instructed civilians, UNMISS and humanitarian groups to resume their work in the area. 11 fatalities coded for this event.
